A follower of mine from Australia asked me this week if I pledged to
Buy Nothing New in October.
Whaaa?
I checked out the
link she gave me and learned that this is something that started over in Melbourne to
raise awareness about our consumption..."concientious consumption"...and was designed to help us to
think about where we get our goods from.
I immediately got anxious and felt like
I could never do this. Then I thought about it for a few minutes. Aside from food and toiletries, I pretty much only buy used anyway {I think}. And, it's only for one month.
I decided to pledge.
"Why pledge if you already Buy Nothing New?"
Well, because I'm not exactly sure
what
I buy.
Do I even buy things? I don't know?! It doesn't
feel like I ever buy anything, whether it's new or not. Well, okay, except for cute little thrift store and estate sale treasures. Oh yeah...and
my new laptop.
So the challenge for me is to
get a handle on what I DO buy. I have a feeling that I buy a lot more than I realize.
Stay tuned for some periodic updates throughout October to see how I'm doing. Are you excited? I'm excited! I can't wait to buy things so I can blog about it! :ahem: Just kidding.
But if I HAVE to buy something, it will be used, and I will blog it so you can follow along.
I like the
Buy Nothing New blog. You should check it out when you have a few minutes!
Did you pledge? Why is this important to you?
