Small Craft Launch in Detroit!

This weekend is the launch of Small Craft, a new local resource for supplies and workshops promoting all kinds of creative reuse.  For now, Small Craft will be temporarily docking at The Trumbullplex in Detroit each month, with a few "pop up" shops in and around the area.

I was able to track down Amy, co-Captain of this husband and wife venture, in the midst of last minute planning, to ask her a few questions about the launch.

What are your expectations for the launch?
Our main goal for the launch this Saturday is to bring people together for a day of community and crafts. We are going to have a lot of fun things going on in addition to the upcycled crafts for sale, there will be a knitting workshop,  live music, treats from Avalon International Breads, a kids craft area, and the Trumbullplex Zine Library’s open hours.  We hope to meet a lot of new people and form some new relationships in the area.
What kinds of supplies have you already received, and will you be accepting donations during the launch?
We have received a nice selection for our first event!  We will have yarn, fabric, paper goods, needlework supplies, beads and other jewelry findings, sewing notions, and general craft items. We most definitely will be accepting donations, this Saturday and at every event we do.  Our business is based on donations, and we are working on building up our inventory, so at this point, we are accepting any unwanted crafting supplies. In exchange for donating, we will be offering coupons on future workshops for when we get a permanent space!
Will the "pop up shop" be temporarily permanent at The Trumbullplex in Detroit, or will you pop up at various locations?
Right now we have every 2nd Saturday reserved at the Trumbullplex, and are totally open to adding additional events around the area. We will be at the Flint Holiday Market on November 26, as well as Baar Bazaar at the Majestic Theatre on December 17.
What upcoming workshops should we be looking forward to?
You can make this!
Yes!  Workshops are coming together nicely!  This Saturday is the knitting workshop where you can learn to knit a hat (a list of supplies needed can be found on our website, Next month we have a sewing workshop to make your own draft blockers for your house out of old ties! January’s event will be aromatherapy-based.  February will be a Valentine’s Day paper craft.  Future workshops will include a studio day for people who might not have access to a nice camera or lighting to bring in their handmade goods and get professional photos taken of their work, and a “Business for People Who Don’t Like Business” workshop as well!

You can find more information about Small Craft and Saturday's launch here and here.

I, accompanied by a craft project and items to donate {I cleaned out my studio...again!}, and Anne accompanied by new knitting needles for the workshop, are making our way down to the launch on Saturday.

Won't you come too?

PS:  Michelle here, editing a quick update so you can see some photos from the launch!
