Buy Nothing New Month {Report Card}

Remember how I pledged to buy nothing new this month?  I have to say, it's not terrible!  Buuuut...

The day before my pledge began, I set out to the store to pick up a few new things that I didn't think I could get used, or bear to wear used.  The only thing I could come up with was new knee socks.

{I absolutely cannot survive without cozy knee socks Autumn through Winter}

On October 1st {looking cute in my new socks} I was really excited to start my day!  I looked at my to-do list first thing in the morning and {uh oh} realized that I was screwed.  My pledge was going to turn to dust before I even had my first cup of coffee.  On the first day.

What was the deal?  Packing tape.  I had an order that needed to be mailed out to a customer that day, and I didn't have any packing tape to seal up the box.  I frantically looked around my house for a suitable mailer or other packing alternative, but found nothing.

So off to the store I went to buy new tape. {Does it count that I bought it at the Dollar Store?}

Lessons learned:
Stock up. While thrifting, be on the lookout for tools and supplies that you can keep tucked away for those last minute tasks.
Borrow.  Borrow supplies from a friend
Plan ahead.  Don't wait until the last minute to take care of business.  If I hadn't waited until the last minute, I bet I could have found tape or packing supplies at the thrift store or had enough time to borrow some from a friend.
Challenges so far:
Staying warm. Over the course of a year, I have lost so much weight that I've dropped 3 sizes. I sold all of my warm clothes at my garage sale in July, and really don't have much to wear for winter. Because I'm tall and lanky, I have a really difficult time finding clothes at thrift and resale stores that fit nicely. Time to upcycle!
Halloween. I've always made mine and Milo's costumes with things that I have laying around the house, but I'm challenged this year with costume makeup. I am going to see if I can borrow left over make up from a friend, or perhaps split the cost of new makeup and share.
What I bought {used}:

You might recall that part of this challenge for me is to keep track of what I am buying, whether it's new or used.  I haven't bought much, but I did buy these at a recent Estate Sale:

Vintage Children's Card Game Decks

Vintage Record Player
Bike for Milo {this was only $3!}

I also went to Arts and Scraps yesterday and picked up a few things :ahem: a bag full of things from their Fall Fabric and Yarn sale.  I'm saving that for another post.  Stay tuned!

How are you doing on your Buy Nothing New challenge?

What are you going to be for Halloween?
